March Newsletter

March Newsletter Highlights

Have you heard? Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow, which means an early spring is around the corner! For some of us, it means a reprieve from the long, (sort of) cold winter, while for others, it means the end of Washington ski season. Spring is often seen as a symbol of renewal, rebirth, hope, optimism, balance and harmony. Whether your spring tradition is to deep clean, visit the UW cherry blossoms, observe the equinox, revive your garden, or celebrate St. Patrick's Day, we hope your March is made of good health, revival, and new experiences with loved ones.

Galleri Multi Cancer Early Detection Test
Reid Kiyabu, ND, MAc

March is colorectal cancer awareness month! Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States. It is preventable and treatable if caught early enough, which is why following screening guidelines is so important.

Galleri is an innovative blood test that screens for over 50 different types of cancers, including colorectal cancer. The test is a game-changer because it can identify cancers that currently do not have screening guidelines. It works by detecting fragments of DNA that can be localized to the type of body tissue that may be cancerous. Data show the test is excellent at determining the absence of cancer, so if your test is negative, it is accurate in 98.5% of cases. It's important to note that Galleri is a screening test, it is not diagnostic, so if the results are positive, follow up for further evaluation is required. Getting the test is simple and only requires a quick blood draw. Although it is not covered by insurance at this time, it may be in the near future. The test is particularly useful for anyone over 50 years old or those with a family history of cancer. Reach out to your provider at ICM to discuss the Galleri test.

Celebrate International Women's Day with Maca!

International Women's Day is celebrated annually on March 8th. It's a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, while also calling for gender equality. Let's use International Women's Day 2024 as an opportunity to inspire, support, and uplift women everywhere.

In honor of International Women's Day 2024, we're highlighting a line of supplements that support women's heath and wellbeing. The Femmenessenceline of products have diverse utility for women in all stages of life.

  • Femmenessence MacaHarmony for teens and those of reproductive age.
  • Femmenessence MacaLife for perimenopause.
  • Femmenessence MacaPause for menopause.

Maca, a plant native to the Andes mountains of Peru, is often touted for its potential health benefits, particularly for women. Potential benefits for women may include:

  1. Hormonal Balance: Femmenessence can help balance hormones, particularly estrogen levels, which may be beneficial for women experiencing menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, and vaginal dryness.
  2. Menstrual Health: Maca can help alleviate menstrual cramps, irregular periods, and other menstrual discomforts. Its potential hormone-balancing effects may contribute to improved menstrual health.
  3. Fertility Support: Maca may improve fertility by enhancing sperm quality and ovarian function.
  4. Energy and Mood: Maca is sometimes used to boost energy levels and improve mood. It may help reduce feelings of fatigue and enhance overall well-being.
  5. Bone Health: Maca contains calcium, magnesium, and other minerals that are essential for bone health. Consuming maca as part of a balanced diet may contribute to maintaining strong bones, especially important for women at risk of osteoporosis.
  6. Skin Health: Maca may help improve skin health, reducing acne and promoting a clearer complexion. Its antioxidant properties may also protect the skin from oxidative damage.
  7. Libido Enhancement: Maca is often marketed as a natural aphrodisiac and libido enhancer, and it can have positive effects on sexual function and desire.

The Femmenessence line of products are available at ICM! Speak to your provider for more information or to find out if maca is right for you.
