What you need to know about us
At the Institute of Complementary Medicine, we strive to provide you with the most comprehensive and individual integrative health through evaluation, treatment and education regarding therapies and modern bio-medical science.
Health is more than the absence of disease; it is a state in which the body, mind, and spirit thrive in balance. Our approach to medicine recognizes that without addressing the underlying imbalances, drugs and supplements can often only mask the symptoms. At the Institute of Complementary Medicine we work with you to find practical solutions to restore equilibrium– physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Your health in balance = radiant wellness!
The doctors at ICM don’t just practice evidence-based medicine; we contribute to researching it!
Results of a landmark research study were recently published showing the benefits patients with diabetes can expect to achieve when working with a naturopathic physician. The study was a one year observational trial funded by the National Institutes of Health. ICM physicians were part of the research team. Following our usual practices, we treated people with diabetes by developing an individualized treatment plan that included detailed health promotion counseling, practical recommendations, and nutritional supplements. Working in partnership with patients and their needs, we refined the plan and continued to provide counseling over one year. The result? Patients made significant changes in health behaviors: eating better, exercising more, felt their mood improve. They also improved blood sugar control (HbA1c) by near 1%! Congratulations to our patients – they are the real successes of this study!
ICM doctors are participating in another NIH-funded study of integrative oncology and breast cancer. This study is still underway but promises to help us better understand if integrative oncology can extend survival among women with breast cancer.
Research like this helps us understand what patients can expect when they work with naturopathic physicians.
